HISTORY 

 2009 - John Kung’u, former Kenyan street boy, begins working with street boys in Githurai 

 2011 - Maxwell family moves to Kenya to work with street boys

 2012-13 - Exploratory work with street boys in Western Kenya 

 2014 - Tyler Maxwell begins working with John Kung’u. More than 50 street kids being ministered to.

 2015 - TRU International is formed. Art Classes and Football Ministries added; Outreach in Kasarani & Roysambu begins; First clothing and feeding initiatives begin. More than 100 street kids are now being ministered to.

 2016 - Larry and Hollye Conway, missionaries with more than 30 years of experience begin their partnership with TRU; first boys taken     off of the streets and into the care of TRU; Outreach begins in Maji Mazuri. More than 200 street kids are now being ministered to.

 2017 - TRU Ministry Center opens; number of street boys ministered to increases greatly; outreach begins in Ruiru. More than 300 street kids are now being ministered to.

 2018 - The first two street boys to graduate TRU’s programming complete training as a mechanic and a plumber. More than 350 street kids are now being ministered to.

 2019 - Outreach begins in Ngomongo and Githurai Work begins in the larger community as a measure to prevent additional kids from going to the streets. More than 400 street kids are now being ministered to.

 2020 - Covid hits, but TRU feeds over 6,000 people in need. Outreach begins in Thika 

 2021 - Howe and Clinch families move to Kenya to join TRU’s ministry; Ministry resumes at a high level post-Covid. More than 500 street kids are now being ministered to

 2022 - Work begins in Zimmerman and Korogocho; Ministry expands to include street girls and other marginalized women. Nearly 600 street kids are now being ministered to.
